When the Mexico courthouse lawn was redone, the flagpole that had stood on the lawn came down and was headed for the scrap pile. Scott Weber hurriedly called Bobette Balser Wilson and she contacted Nelson Wilson to deliver the pole to the stable grounds. Many conversations were had deciding what best to do with the pole, where it should stand, and how and where to repair it. Fluid Power Support of Mexico sandblasted the base, pole, and top of the flagpole to prepare it for galvanizing. After sandblasting, the pole was transported to Glasgow, MO to be galvanized. Before the pole could be erected, it began to rust in several places. The galvanizing company was contacted but did not think they could coat the spots that were rusting. Fluid Power Support was contacted again and they were able to powder coat the base and the top of the pole. A structural architect, Daniel Struemph, was contacted to draw up plans for the installation of the pole. Since the pole is 40ft. tall, it had to have a base 8 ft. in the ground. Consolidated Electric graciously donated the labor to dig the 8 ft. deep hole. Kevin Jennings & Sons completed the permanent concrete base. After all the setbacks, Dakota Moore and Balus Jones were finally able to erect the pole on the southwest lawn in the fall of 2019. Nathan King and crew of JKL Landscaping installed the pavers at the base of the pole. Electrician, Rodney Rapp, is scheduled to install lighting. With all the setbacks, hurdles, and a pandemic, we are finally able to host our dedication ceremony!
